Keeping your residential landline number while transferring to FTTP broadband
A regular question we get is what to do when your residential broadband is being switched to FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) and you've been told that you will lose your landline number.
Fear not! Our customers have been switching numbers with us for over 20 years and the process related to the FTTP broadband switch is no different!
The techncial name for this whole process is Right to Port, in which a customer has 31 days to reestablish service with a new provider once the move has begun.
What to expect
Here's a typical timeline of what you can expect during the number porting process, from start to finish:
Step 1
Line change to FTTP
You are notified by your current broadband provider that your Line Rental or FTTC (Fibre To The Cabinet) line is being switched to FTTP (Fibre To The Premises) and that the process is starting.
Once this is complete, your old line will no longer work and will cease to receive calls.
Step 2
Submit a porting request
Log into your Voipfone control panel and create a new porting request.
This process will help you move your number to Voipfone (the number is still fully owned and controlled by you).
Step 3
Wait for the porting to complete
This typically takes one week.
While you wait, why not take a look at some of our award winning services?
During this time you might also want to decide if you want to purchase any additional hardware for your new move to VoIP, such as a new VoIP ready telephone or an adapter if you're already happy with the device you have.
Step 4
Done!
We let you know that your telephone number is now active on the Voipfone network and will be able to receive calls again.
