Nuisance calls are an increasing problem for all of us, there's no simple solution to stop all of them but there are some steps you can take that can severely reduce them.
The Telephone Preference Service (TPS) is a free service. It is the official central opt out register on which you can record your preference not to receive unsolicited sales or marketing calls. It is a legal requirement that all organisations (including charities, voluntary organisations and political parties) do not make such calls to numbers registered on the TPS unless they have your consent to do so.
The service cuts down a lot of calls that originate from the UK, but it doesn't stop irresponsible UK callers or those irritating and criminal ones from outside the UK.
Our call Barring service provides you with a series of call filters to screen out anonymous callers, calls from international destinations, 08xx calls etc, plus the ability to blacklist individual numbers. Calls that you put on these lists will be sent to recorded messages and the line dropped automatically.
Anonymous callers will hear: 'The number you are calling is not accepting anonymous calls, please redial without withholding your number'.
08XX callers will hear "Sorry, this number is not accepting calls from non-geographic 08 telephone numbers".
Numbers you have manually blocked will hear "Your call can't be connected".
The service costs £3 per month more information about our call barring service can be found here.
If you have a particular problem caller whose number you know, you may route it directly to our 166 anti-telesales number.
View a demo of 166 here, or just dial 166 from your Voipfone telephone - the call is free.
You can also hear the 166 message by dialing 0843 176 0166 from any other phone. This will normally be enough to ensure that they do not call again.
