Voipfone at Home Unlimited is designed for people that use the telephone for their normal activities. Call centres, telemarketers and re-sellers are specifically excluded from this service. It is not permitted for customers to use Voipfone at Home Unlimited with their own PBX. Full details of this and other exclusions can be found in our Terms and Conditions. None of these exclusions will affect a normal telephone user.

Voipfone plans include calls to 01, 02 and 03 landline numbers and 07 mobile numbers. Calls to Crown Dependency landlines (i.e. Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man) are not included in Voipfone Plans. Mobile networks included in these plans: Vodafone, O2, EE and Three, plus their resellers such as Sky, GiffGaff and Tesco. They exclude specialist networks such as Manx and Jersey.

Frequently asked questions

VoIP can be confusing at times and those new to it often have a few questions.

The good news is you're not alone and many before you have had similar queries, here you will find answers to the most common questions we get when it comes to switching.

Click any of the headings to find out the answer.

Can I keep my existing phone number?

Yes you can. We can transfer (port) almost any landline number onto our service, including BT, Sky, TalkTalk and Virgin Media, as well as numbers from other VoIP providers.

If you have your broadband supplied over your phone line (ADSL or Fibre-to-the-Cabinet), this might be cancelled if you move your number. You should upgrade to full-fibre broadband before asking us to move your number.

If full-fibre broadband is unavailable in your area, you may still be able to have broadband over a copper line but without phone service, which is known as SoGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access). Call us on 0345 868 5555, and we will guide you through the options available to you.

What if I already cancelled my old landline phone service?

We can still recover your old number if your service was cancelled less than 31 days ago. This is known as your "Right to Port".

Is there a minimum contract?

We don't want to lock you into a contract - all our services are provided on a monthly rolling agreement, and you are free to cancel at any time.

Will I need a new handset?

VoIP is a completely different technology to that used with traditional telphones. However, there are ways you can still use your old handsets.

Use a VoIP adapter. Our adapters come pre-configured with your account settings, and should work straight out of the box.

Your existing router may have a VoIP adapter built in - if it does there will be a socket on the back labelled 'FXS'. If you use this, you will need to configure your router with your Voipfone account settings.

Adapters generally only work with one phone (or one base station, if you are using wireless DECT handsets). If you have internal wiring for multiple phone extensions there are often ways to make it work with an adapter, but will usually require some changes at the master socket. Generally an easier solution is to replace existing phones with wireless DECT phones.

Can I get my broadband from you?

Absolutely! We sell a full range of broadband solutions, and just like all our other services it's a monthly rolling agreement - no long-term contracts and no mid-term price hikes.

How much does all this cost?

Our residential plans start from just £6 per month (inc VAT) for a phone number (which can be your existing landline number), and 100 minutes of calls to UK landlines and mobiles. All our plans come with voicemail, call blocking, call recording and call forwarding as standard.

Calls between Voipfone customers are always free, no matter where they are in the world. Get your friends and family to sign up and start saving today!

What is VoIP?

VoIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. It is a technology that allows phone calls to be sent digitally over the internet rather than via traditional copper telephone lines.

We've written a guide that explains in detail how it all works.

What is the BT Big Landline Switch Off?

BT has announced that it is switching off all of its old telephone network by the end of January 2027. Everyone will have to move their landline phone service to VoIP, or as BT calls it, Digital Voice, with phone calls sent over broadband connections instead.

This changeover has been poorly communicated and badly handled. Some people have lost their landline and their phone number entirely, and many broadband companies don't offer a VoIP phone service at all.

Fortunately you can use Voipfone no matter who provides your broadband, and you can keep your old phone number too. Get ahead of the Big Switch Off by switching to us today!

What happens if there is a power cut?

One side-effect of the old copper phone network was that the lines were powered from the telephone exchange, and so a traditional phone would still work even during a power cut (with the exception of DECT phones that still need mains power for the base station). This is not the case with broadband and VoIP, but there are still some steps you can take.

Our recommended solution is to set up our call forwarding service, is which included with all of our plans. You specify a number (usually a mobile) for 'PSTN Failover', to which your calls will be sent if your VoIP telephone is unreachable for any reason, such as during a power cut, or loss of internet service.

Alternatively, you can use a battery backup or UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply) to power your broadband router and VoIP telephones if the power goes out.
